A new study shows dentists may be able to identify pre-diabetes or people undiagnosed with diabetes, according to the Journal of Dental Research.
"Periodontal disease is an early complication of diabetes, and about 70 percent of U.S. adults see a dentist at least once a year," the study's senior author, Dr. Ira Lamster, dean of the College of Dental Medicine.
